Investigating Forest System Resilience to Catastrophic Wind Disturbances

As severe weather events may increase in frequency and/or severity due to global climate change, we plan to contribute to an understanding of the interplay between natural disturbance, insect biodiversity and ecosystem health and determine management strategies which facilitate resilience.

We are investigating the impacts of hurricane and tornado events on landscape structure, ecosystem health and invertebrate movement and diversity in the coastal plains.

We are contributing to investigations of economic drivers of post-hurricane timber salvage and carbon additionality under disturbance regimens.

We are developing projects to enhance the resilience of communities in tornado-prone regions and facilitate sustainable management of timber and agricultural resources under increasing storm pressures.
